Avon Williams Became Involved In the Tennessee State University/University of Tennessee at Nashville Merger Suit as Attorney For the Plaintiff Interveners and Successfully Persuaded the Court That UT Nashville be Merged Into Tennessee State University. "This Was A Major Landmark Decision Because It Was The First Time In The History Of The Nation That A Major White Institution Was Absorbed By A Major Black Institution." On April 16, 1986 Tennessee State University's Downtown Campus Became Known as the Avon Williams Campus.
