Teachers' inclusion of varied genres of music in middle school and high school class piano of Davidson County, Tennessee school system and surrounding counties
Abstract
Students of music have many influences that guide their preferences in music and bring a variety of experiences and expectations to piano class. Some students may feel that one genre of music is used more than others, which may be a deterrent to learning piano. Teachers who incorporate pieces of music from genres that excite students may receive better outcomes in students' performance and willingness to learn. The focus of this research is to determine the styles of music used by teachers during class piano instruction.
