Design of a multiple wireless intruder detection and tracking system

Lindsay Danielle Williams, Tennessee State University

Abstract

Nowadays, the security is one of the biggest issues in computer networks. In accompanying with the popularization of computer network, the security issue becomes more and more important because of the increment of internal/external hackers on the network. For the wireless network, localizing and tracking the hackers has become a new task to protect the network. A system to detect and monitor multiple internal/external hackers was developed. The detection algorithm uses directional antennas to scan a specific area and monitor MAC addresses. The detected MAC address is compared with the MAC address database. If a detected MAC address does not match with the MAC address database, then the administrator is notified by a message on the monitor. The administrator uses the directional antenna to identify the position of the newly detected MAC address based on the signal strength, and further track the intruder.
