Compare and contrast of the fundamental group and homotopy group

Jimmy Donald Morris, Tennessee State University

Abstract

This research explores the comparison and contrast of the first homotopy group and the homology group. In mathematics, homotopy groups are used in algebraic topology to classify topological spaces. Homology is a certain procedure to associate a sequence of Abelian groups or modules with a given mathematical object such as a topological space or a group. The object of this research is to take a closer look at both groups to see if there exist any similarities or differences.
